Tufts offers a variety of rental properties to faculty to help support their career at Tufts. Rental properties are available to Tufts faculty through Walnut Hill Properties, a not-for-profit corporation established by the university to own and manage certain investment and rental properties.

These properties are all located within half a mile of the Medford/Somerville campus, reducing commute time and offering the opportunity for deeper engagement with campus life.

Eligibility

These rental properties are available to full-time Tufts faculty members. There is a three-term rental limit policy. The purpose of this policy is to ensure an ongoing supply of available units for newly hired incoming faculty. After your initial lease expires, you will be eligible to renew for two additional leasing terms. Leases generally start in July or August and end in May or June.

Locations

Walnut Hill Properties has a range of different properties, wood-frame multi-family houses, single family houses and apartments within an apartment building, all within half a mile of the Medford/Somerville campus.

Costs

To alleviate financial strain on a faculty member’s initial arrival on campus, the only upfront cost is the 1st month's rent, which is due to Walnut Hill Properties one month prior to the move-in date. No security deposit or last month’s rent is required. Leases can be terminated with a 30-day notice and a termination fee of 2 months’ rent. Please note that the units are unfurnished, and you will be required to set up and pay for heat, electricity, cable, and internet. Walnut Hill covers water/sewer, trash, and landscaping/snow removal.
