Dear students,
As the pandemic continues, I am grateful to each of you for the tremendous efforts you have made over the past several weeks. I realize that these changes have been both difficult and frustrating for many of you. I am humbled and proud of our faculty and staff’s commitment to our students’ success and our mission to serve others, and I am deeply impressed with how our student body is facing this new challenge of remote learning. The overall empathy and support our community members have shown towards each other is both inspiring and impressive.

Thank you to those who took the time to personally write to me and other senior leaders to express your experiences and offer opinions on recent decisions. I sincerely appreciate your comments, and I want to ensure you that above all else, our students remain our top priority. I appreciate the patience and understanding that you all have shown us, as we continue tomake difficult decisions that impact our students, faculty, and staff.

To our graduates, I know that your spring semester is so radically different than anticipated, and there is much that you hoped to accomplish and experience that is no longer possible. Please know that no matter what, we are all very proud of you. You still have much to celebrate, and come May 17th, you will officially become alumni of Tufts University! I look forward tothe day that we can finally be together in person to celebrate this momentous occasion.

As you continue to reflect on recent events, I encourage you to find time tofocus on your well-being and mindfulness and to stay connected to the Tufts community. One way to stay connected is by participating in the My Tufts Story video contest by telling us about your passions and interests and how you are designing your education and experiences with those interests in mind. Given the unique challenges we are all facing, I am particularly interested to hear how you have continued to pursue yourpassions in light of current events. The submission deadline is April 26th, and I am pleased to announce that there will be two grand prizes of $1,000 each:

My Tufts Story Grand Prize: General Category
My Tufts Story Grand Prize: COVID-19 Pandemic

The two grand prizes, together with other My Tufts Story awards, will be announced to the Tufts community on Friday, May 1st. More information can be found at: https://provost.tufts.edu/my-tufts-story/.

Again, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you all as well as my strongest support and encouragement. Every one of you makes me proud of who we are, a truly collaborative and resilient university focused on its mission of bringing the best possible education to our students. I know that Tufts will prevail and each of us will emerge stronger at the end of this unprecedented crisis.

If you have any questions or concerns please continue to reach out to my colleagues and me at covid19@tufts.edu.

With warm regards and wishing health and safety to you and your loved ones,
