Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs

Photo of Melissa Stevenson As assistant provost for faculty affairs, Melissa is responsible for advancing the strategic priorities of the provost’s office as they relate to the development and implementation of policies and processes that impact faculty. She oversees the academic appointment approvals process, supports the work of the Trustees’ Academic Affairs Committee, and offers guidance to university stakeholders on faculty hiring and compensation practices, tenure and promotion review, faculty governance, faculty awards and recognition, and university-wide faculty policies.  

Melissa has twenty years of experience in higher education, the past nine of which she has spent working for the Office of the Provost at Tufts.  Before joining Tufts University, Melissa served as the Associate Director of the Professional MBA program at George Washington University and as Director of Academic Services and Student Development at the Catholic University of America, the latter for which she also taught courses as a part-time lecturer of adult learners.  

She holds a Master of Science in Management from the Catholic University of America and a Master of Arts in Gender and Cultural Studies from Simmons University. In her free time she enjoys reading and cooking, hanging out with her husband and son, and is an avid knitter.
