Relocating for an academic job in a new city can bring real challenges, not only in searching for housing in a competitive real estate market but also in securing employment for a partner or spouse. To address these challenges, the Office of the Provost offers a variety of dual-career resources to help potential and current faculty looking to relocate with a spouse or partner. While Tufts cannot guarantee employment, we are committed to assisting in any way possible.
The Office of the Provost can assist with:
Our dual-career counselor will help faculty and their partners access resources and provide a point of entry to possible internal and external employment. The counselor will meet with the couple to help determine an individualized plan that can best achieve their goals. If you have questions or would like to schedule a time to meet with a dual-career counselor, please contact Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Kevin Dunn at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you or your partner/spouse would like to browse all of the current faculty and administrative job opportunities at Tufts, please visit the Office of Human Resources’ Jobs at Tufts page. As a part of the individualized plan that dual-career counseling offers, there is an opportunity to be connected with a Talent Acquisition team member in order to explore potential on-campus employment opportunities.
Tufts is a member of the New England Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (NE HERC), a coalition of higher education and related institutions committed to breaking down barriers to employment. HERC’s website lists resources and tips for those embarking on a dual career job search, including opportunities with member institutions. Inside Higher Ed Careers has a handy Dual Career search feature on their website to search for jobs within a commutable distance to Tufts and surrounding areas. This is another tool to use to explore local opportunities for a partner.
Whether you’re relocating across the country or across town, the Real Estate Advantage Program provides you and your immediate family access to specialists who can connect you with local licensed real estate experts and service providers. Through a partnership between Tufts and Coldwell Banker Realty, this program offers a rebate of 15% of the commission on the home that you are buying or selling when you close with your assigned agent. This program is available to all faculty and staff, and their immediate families. For more information, please visit the Real Estate Advantage Program page at Access Tufts.
