Dear Tufts Faculty,

I am writing to announce that after 11 years of service in the Office of the Provost, Kevin Dunn will be stepping down from his role as vice provost for faculty to return to his faculty appointment full-time in the department of English, effective June 30.

Kevin was appointed as associate provost by former provost, Davis Harris, in 2012 where he led multiple academic and faculty affairs initiatives, including his partnership with the faculty on the creation of the university-wide Faculty Senate, the implementation of many of the university’s T10 strategic priorities, and his leadership in a wide range of faculty governance matters across the university. In acknowledgement of this work, he was promoted to vice provost in 2014. In January 2022, Kevin was appointed to serve as vice provost for faculty where he has been instrumental in expanding Tufts’ faculty support infrastructure and developing policies, guidelines, and programs that support and elevate faculty throughout their entire career lifecycle.

Prior to his time in the Office of the Provost, he served in multiple academic leadership roles including as director of Graduate Studies in the English department, dean of the College of Special Studies, dean of Academic Affairs for the School of Arts and Sciences, and chair of the religion department.

I am deeply grateful for Kevin’s long-standing service to Tufts, to the Office of the Provost, and to our faculty, specifically. Although he will be missed in our office, I am glad that he will continue to contribute to Tufts’ vibrant educational community through his teaching and scholarship.

Vice Provost for Faculty Search

To appoint Kevin’s successor, we are conducting a national search for Tufts’ next vice provost for faculty. We have convened a search committee of Tufts faculty and administrators who will interview and vet an initial group of candidates, a subset of which will then move forward for consideration by myself and other key stakeholders.

Internal candidates are strongly encouraged to apply and we encourage you to share the position with your networks, once it is posted in the coming weeks. To nominate a candidate, please email Kara Charmanski, executive associate provost, at kara.charmanski@tufts.edu.

We are fortunate to have a talented and dedicated team in the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty. Until a new vice provost is appointed, Kevin’s portfolio will be distributed across the team and I will be working closely with them to move our strategic initiatives forward. Please reach out to faculty@tufts.edu for general inquiries and questions.

I would like to thank Kevin again for his service, and I look forward to keeping you updated on the search.

Warm regards,
Caroline
