CELT provides on-demand services to support individual faculty, departments, and schools in their teaching endeavors. Our conversations with you are for developmental purposes and are kept private. Reach out to celt@tufts.edu to request any of the following:

Individual Consultations

CELT can meet with you to help you develop your teaching skills, design elements of your course, address teaching concerns, or explore scholarly projects related to teaching. We are happy to work with you multiple times throughout your teaching pursuits.

Mid-term Feedback

CELT’s mid-term feedback program provides faculty with student feedback to allow them to make timely adjustments in courses during the semester. A CELT colleague will visit your class for about 25 minutes and, using a scaffolded discussion protocol, gather feedback from students on what is working well for their learning and what could be improved. The CELT colleague will then compile the feedback and produce an anonymous and confidential report that identifies major themes and suggestions. We will then meet to share the report, discuss the results, and collaboratively brainstorm potential course adjustments.

If you prefer to gather student feedback mid-semester on your own, we can also help you make sense of the feedback data.

Classroom Observations

Observation is a way to gain new insights about your teaching. A CELT colleague can visit your class on a date of your choosing and act as a silent observer, focusing on whatever aspects of teaching you would most like feedback on (e.g., student engagement, presentation style, pacing, clarity, etc). We will then meet to discuss the observations and explore any potential adjustments.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

CELT partners with faculty to help them get started with scholarly investigations about their teaching. The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is a systematic engagement with research related to student learning that is published in peer-reviewed journals to advance the knowledge base of peers.  This page poses a series of steps and guiding questions that may be helpful in conceptualizing your own project.

Departmental or School Support

CELT can work with departments, schools, committees, or other faculty groups on topics such as program design, curriculum revision, inclusive teaching practices, educational initiatives, and more. We are experienced with constructing generative, engaging discussions that invite as many faculty voices as possible.

CELT’s Confidentiality Policy

Developing relationships built on trust and confidentiality is critical to CELT’s mission of creating a culture of critically reflective teaching and leadership rooted in evidence and equity. Our work with faculty is intended for formative teaching improvement. Feedback during or following individuals’ interactions with CELT is provided only to the individual, who may choose to share it with others if they wish.

In addition to the on-demand services listed above, CELT also offers teaching-focused programs and events throughout the year.
