Applications are now closed for Fall 2024.

It’s back! The CELT Faculty Fellows Program is returning for Fall 2024. After taking a year hiatus to review and refresh the program, we are excited to announce that we will be accepting applications for the Fall 2024 cohort. This program is open to all Tufts instructors, tenure track and non-tenure track. The program is most effective when participants are currently teaching or have recently taught.

The CELT Faculty Fellows program is a semester-long opportunity for faculty to reflect more deeply on their teaching. The Fellows meet for 10 mornings throughout the Fall semester with colleagues from across the university. The seminar intends to create a supportive learning community where faculty can explore effective teaching approaches to enhance student learning outcomes and create inclusive classroom cultures. While the curriculum addresses cognitive and learning science, social-emotional learning, active and experiential learning, and inclusive excellence, the agenda of the program is largely based on the needs of the group.

During the ten weeks of the program, participants read a common text and engage in discussions about the values and philosophy that undergird their teaching practices and reflect on their students’ learning. Each participant will facilitate an interactive teaching activity that they have not yet tried with their students and will receive feedback from the group. Each participant will leave with a developed Teaching Philosophy Statement and a compendium of reflections that are dedicated to different aspects of their teaching.

Final meeting, December 5, 2019

Final meeting, December 5, 2019

The program will meet on Thursday mornings from 8:45 to 11:45 am. The dates for Fall 2024 meetings are:

September 12*, 19, 26
October 10, 17, 24, 31
November 7, 14
December 5**

*Please note that the September 12 and December 5 meetings will occur in person. All other meetings will occur remotely.

As this is an intensive program, faculty attendance is required and upon successful completion of the program (which includes weekly attendance, participation in weekly learning activities, and the submission of all required deliverables), faculty will receive a certificate and a small stipend.

During the 17 years that CELT has offered the Faculty Fellows Seminars, 189 faculty have participated. For 17 years, CELT has offered this unique opportunity for Tufts faculty to increase their knowledge about student learning and to enhance their teaching skills. Because we recognize the commitment of time and energy required, participants receive a small stipend. We accept only a limited number of applicants each year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email

If you want a participant perspective on the program, you can contact any of the past participant CELT Fellows.

Past participants comments:

"I really valued hearing about teaching issues from faculty coming from such a wide range of teaching expertise, facing such different challenges, and from different departments and schools."

"I appreciated having a designated time to dedicate to my teaching. In the day to day, it is challenging to carve out the time to be truly thoughtful and reflective."

"I think it will help me step back and be more thoughtful about what more precisely I want the students to come away with and to build more thoughtful preparation of class questions and assessment tools than content."
