Topic Summary:

Recent years have seen the resurgence of nationalist and nativist attitudes and sentiments across the world, leading to a sharpening of differences and an increasingly fractured world community.

  • How should we examine and explore our cultural and national differences in order to advance genuine dialogue, conversation, and understanding in our schools and communities?
  • What responsibilities do we have to engage with others from different global backgrounds?
  • How should we approach our differences, and with what aims and purposes?
  • Finally, what do we each individually have to offer others as participants to such conversations, and what do we need to learn in turn?

This event was designed to question the necessity, direction, and potential of international engagement in this time of contentious globalization.
