Dear Tufts Community,

As the semester comes to a close, I would like to thank all of you who have participated in the many T10 engagement events. Your input is invaluable and has already had a significant impact on how we are conceptualizing the merging strategic plan.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to participate in the process, I hope that you may now have time to read the Prelude to the Strategic Plan and respond to the embedded surveys. This document is not the draft strategic plan, but was designed to stimulate conversation and generate feedback during the public engagement phase of the strategic planning process. The surveys embedded within the document will be live until May 31st, 2013.

Over the summer we will be reviewing the range of feedback received from submitted memos, survey responses, focus groups, office hour discussions, and other sources, and will begin to draft the strategic plan. This is an important and exciting time in Tufts’ history as together we determine the guiding direction for the University.

I wish you all a safe, joyful, and productive summer. I look forward to engaging with you again in the fall when we will have a draft of the strategic plan ready for your review. Last, but quite importantly, I want to thank you all for a wonderful first year at Tufts. It has been a true pleasure getting to know the people and programs that make this such a special place.

Best wishes,

David R. Harris

Provost and Senior Vice President

Provost Harris’ Email Announcement from October 1, 2012

Today President Monaco and Provost Harris announced the strategic planning initiative, Tufts: The Next 10 Years (T10). Please visit the strategic planning website at strategicplan.tufts.edu for all up to date information about strategic planning at Tufts.

Dear Members of the Tufts Community,

I am excited to announce that today we are launching a university-wide strategic planning initiative, Tufts: The Next 10 Years (T10). A strategic plan is an opportunity for all of us, as a community, to rediscover our already great university and its role in the world. It is an initiative to recognize our strengths and confront our challenges, while defining an aspirational future for Tufts and the resources necessary to achieve our goals.

I hope you take the opportunity to learn more about the strategic planning initiative and how it will affect the future direction of Tufts University. As we embark on this initiative, I invite you to view a video message from President Monaco and me at http://strategicplan.tufts.edu/. This link is also your gateway to the strategic planning initiative website. It will be a continuing source of information about the evolution of the plan as we work together to identify university-wide strategic challenges, opportunities, and goals.

President Monaco and I are eager to hear your reactions and answer your questions about the T10 strategic planning initiative. There will be ample opportunities to get involved. For example, you can provide feedback by using the “Submit a Comment” link on the website http://strategicplan.tufts.edu/. You can also attend one of the three town hall meetings.

If you are unable to attend these meetings, please feel free to submit your questions in advance by emailing the Provost’s Office at provost@tufts.edu. The Boston meeting will be webcast live and archived on the T10 strategic planning website.

The year ahead promises to be an exhilarating one. President Monaco and I look forward to working with you to develop a university-wide strategic plan that will guide Tufts over the next 10 years.

Sincerely,

David Harris

Provost and Senior Vice President
