Timing:

The Tufts in Talloires Program takes place from mid-May to the end of June. During this period, there is a large community of Tufts students and faculty in attendance in Talloires.

Accommodations:

Accommodations for the Scholars in Residence are set up by the European Center. Apartments are assigned to faculty based on the availability of apartments in and around the village of Talloires and the needs of the faculty as a whole – i.e. larger apartments will to faculty members who are traveling to Talloires with their families, etc. Cost is also a consideration – the larger the apartment, the more costly it is.Local apartments may or may not have phone access. Apartments rarely have internet access. Cell phones (GMS models) can be used with a French SIM card on a pay as you use basis.

Work spaces:

There is a designated faculty work space in the European Center. This room has a large conference-style table and there are three desk-top computers, a cabled laptop station and a printer. The computers are all PCs (Macs will work but are not supported) and are reserved for and shared by all faculty. These desktops as well as the laptop station are all high-speed internet accessible. Wireless access is also available. Please note that the staff at the European Center is not available to provide secretarial support for individual faculty members.

The European Center also has a Library/Computer lab with additional PC computer stations – also all internet accessible. This area is for students and also faculty family/guests when space allows.

Program Activities:

The European Center staff organizes a large number of activities for faculty, students, and the Tufts community in Talloires as a whole. (Activities include faculty potluck dinners, a Kids Day open to all children of the village of Talloires, concerts and lectures for the Talloires community, and weekly hiking excursions, just to name a few.) Scholars in Residence are always invited to participate in these activities.

Logistics:

Information about travel to and from Talloires, car rentals, local travel and regional attractions, and daily issues such as shopping, is all available through the European Center office.
