Keynote Speaker:<\/strong> Michael Wesch, Ph.D.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Dubbed \u201cthe prophet of an education revolution\u201d by the Kansas City Star and \u201cthe explainer\u201d by Wired magazine, Michael Wesch is a cultural anthropologist who explores the effects of new media on society and culture. As a new Professor, Wesch pursued research on social and cultural change in Melanesia, focusing on the introduction of print and print-based practices like mapping and census-taking in the Mountain Ok region of Papua New Guinea. This work inspired him to examine the effects of social media and digital technology on global society and education. His videos on culture, technology, education, and information have been viewed over 20 million times, translated in over 20 languages, and are frequently featured at international film festivals and major academic conferences worldwide.<\/p>\n

Awards:<\/strong> Professor Wesch has won several major awards for his work, including a Wired Magazine Rave Award, the John Culkin Award for Outstanding Praxis in Media Ecology, and he was named an Emerging Explorer by National Geographic. Most importantly, Wesch was the 2008 recipient of the highly coveted U.S. Professor of the Year Award from the Carnegie Foundation. He also was named Kansas State\u2019s 2011-2012 Coffman chair for distinguished teaching scholars.<\/p>\n
