The December 2019 Teaching Symposium occurred on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, 8:45 AM - 2:45 PM on the Medford Campus.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAcademic performance and student mental health are intertwined. 70% of students on the Medford \/ Somerville and Fenway campuses and 65% of students on the Health Sciences campuses indicated that emotional or mental difficulties have hurt their academic performance.\u201d - <\/span>Report of the Mental Health Task Force Report, Tufts University, 2019<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

These numbers are alarming, and, as faculty, we are increasingly challenged with how best to respond to and support students who are struggling with anxiety, depression or other mental health concerns. Sometimes it is difficult to discern which behaviors require urgent attention and which might be an appropriate emotional response to stress. We struggle with how can we hold our standards for academic achievement and at the same time support students\u2019 social and emotional well-being.<\/span><\/p>\n
