Our long-held assumptions about teaching and learning were challenged, both because of the shift to remote teaching and because of our desire for equity, inclusion and justice. An ever expanding body of literature on assessment from an array of disciplines and written through the lens of equity, inclusion and justice, further informed changes in thinking about assessment in higher education.\u00a0 We became curious about questions like:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Are we assessing for what matters most?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Who benefits from traditional assessments, and who might be disadvantaged?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Are we over- or under-assessing - what is the balance?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How can we help students improve at assessing themselves?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty in New England and across the world responded with creativity, innovation, and experimentation, sparked by reflection on these and other questions.This year\u2019s conference is an opportunity to share some of our work, and to extend and build on our inquiries and experiences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-10220-1\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-10220-1-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-10220-1-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h3><span style=\"color: #3172ae\">Keynote Speaker: Dr. Susan Blum, University of Notre Dame<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Title:<\/strong> Assessing for Learning, Learning for Assessing: How to Foster Authentic and Meaningful Learning<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-10225 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/provost.tufts.edu\/celt\/files\/image001-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Professor Susan D. Blum, Professor of Anthropology, University of Notre Dame\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Susan Blum, Professor of\u00a0 Anthropology at Notre Dame University and author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI Love Learning; I Hate School\u201d: An Anthropology of College<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Cornell University Press, 2016) and editor of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ungrading: Why Rating Students Undermines Learning (and What to Do Instead)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (West Virginia University Press, 2020) will be this year\u2019s keynote speaker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A lot of familiar practices in higher education look as if they are immutable, but in recent years pedagogues have been questioning some of them. One of these is the centrality of grading. In this keynote workshop Dr. Susan D.
