MEGA

The Multi-Ethnic Graduate Alliance (MEGA) was founded by Yvette Dalton in 2010 to engage graduate students from across the campuses in diverse recruiting strategies including assisting with summer research via the Leadership Alliance Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) and participating in philanthropic endeavors such as Food Drives for the Greater Boston Foodbank. Any graduate student at Tufts is eligible to join MEGA. To become involved in MEGA, email Yvette.Dalton@tufts.edu.

In addition to connecting graduate students from diverse backgrounds and those interested in diversity across all 8 graduate schools through social and academic events. MEGA and its members aide a number of strategic aims at the university, most notably diverse recruiting and outreach. MEGA students are regularly paid to participate in local and national recruiting activities including staffing our Prospective Graduate Student Day events, attending diverse targeted pre-professional events, visiting Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), and educating potential diverse graduate students about Tufts graduate programs and the graduate school experience.

MEGA works closely with the Leadership Alliance program at Tufts. MEGA fellows are employed to work with summer research scholars in the Leadership Alliance program on our Medford campus. In this 8 to 9 week program, MEGA fellows are paired with summer research scholars as mentors. This experience not only benefits our summer research scholars by connecting them with a diverse graduate student in their field but also benefits our MEGA fellows by giving them experience on how to mentor diverse undergraduates. Each summer, MEGA fellows also have the opportunity to participate in the Leadership Alliance National Symposium, which is the culmination of the summer research experience for SR-EIP participants. At the annual symposium, MEGA fellows act as evaluators, moderators, and facilitators at the academic talk of SR-EIP scholars from around the country.  They also attend workshops focused on maneuvering the post-graduate career path and post-graduate professional development.
