Peggy Newell
Provost and Senior Vice President ad interim
- Articulates and implements the University's academic strategic plan
- Recruits and evaluates Deans and other senior academic managers
- Leads the development and implementation of interdisciplinary and multi-school initiatives
- Develops a resource allocation process that reflects and supports the University's long term academic plan and priorities
- Works with the Deans and other faculty leaders to select, appoint, review and promote faculty
- Maintains principal responsibilities as Vice Provost
Gary Roberts
Assistant Provost
- Manages Provost's office on 2nd floor of Ballou Hall
- Oversees academic appointments, including tenure and promotion (T&P), continuation agreements, and contracts
- Responds to inquiries from faculty and deans on University and school bylaws and policies, such as faculty appointments, T&P issues/procedures, endowed professorships, sabbatic leaves, and tuition/grant-in-aid
- Works with legal counsel on bylaw revisions and legal matters
- Monitors PAFs (Personnel Action Forms) and other actions for full-time faculty
- Supports Trustee Academic Affairs Committee and Provost's Council
Marcella Tanona
Assistant to the Provost
- Manages the Provost's Calendar
- Coordinates with Advancement Office for Provost's events and travel
- Makes travel arrangements
- Supports office budgetary accounts
Emily Schipper
Project Assistant
- Provides support for a variety of initiatives, including the Provost's Fellows program, the Graduate and Professional Student Admissions Recruitment Committee (GAPSARC), and the DOW Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge
- Supports events that are coordinated by the Associate Director of Graduate Diversity Programs, including the Prospective Graduate Student Days and the annual Diversity Reception
- Provides administrative support for the Provost's Office, including scheduling the Coolidge Room in Ballou Hall
Kara Storti
Administrative Assistant
- Prepares briefings for the Provost, drafts memoranda and reports, and assists with the Provost's correspondence
- Maintains office files and databases
- Supports faculty PAF review, tracking, and processing
Jillian Dubman
Secretary of the Faculty for Arts, Sciences and Engineering
- Schedules faculty meetings and maintains records of faculty minutes for AS&E, A&S, Engineering, GSAS and the College of Special Studies
- Supports several AS&E Committees: T&P Committee, B&P Committee, Executive Committee, Committee on Committees, the Curriculum Committee for A&S and Engineering, and the Faculty Advisory Board.
- Maintains historical data on AS&E committees, including procedural documentation, annual committee lists, committee election results etc.
- Maintains the Faculty Info and Retiree webpage: http://ase.tufts.edu/faculty-info/
- Updates Committee Membership Lists, Info Book and New Faculty Bios annually
Courtney Spieler
Staff Assistant
- Provides administrative assistance to the Secretary of the Faculty for Arts, Sciences and Engineering
- Supports events that are coordinated by the Secretary of the Faculty, including faculty meetings, committee meetings, and training meetings
- Maintains content on AS&E Faculty Information website, including committee lists, faculty meeting calendars, and faculty election information
- Edits faculty meeting minutes and contributes to ad hoc research projects
Suna Grassi
Assistant Provost
- Works with the Provost and the Vice Provost on a variety of initiatives, including academic planning, priority setting, and facility planning
- Is responsible for oversight and fiscal management of Office of the Provost budgets and discretionary accounts. Is Budget Fiscal Officer (BFO) of the Provost's Office, Provost's laboratory, Office of the Vice Provost, Office for Technology Licensing & Industry Collaboration, Boards of Overseers office, Digital Collections and Archives, Tufts Institute for the Environment, WSSS, Institute for Global Leadership, Fares Center, European Center, Department of Laboratory Animal Medicine, and Office of Institutional Research & Evaluation
- Manages Human Resources responsibilities for Provost's units
- Assists with management of the Vice Provost's office
- Provides high level of oversight of IT systems and websites for the Vice Provost's office
- Edits and publishes Research News @ Tufts, an online newsletter
- Provides oversight of Research Days
Marcy Archfield
Budget and Operations Administrator
- Manages Office of the Provost budgets and discretionary accounts
- Monitors paperwork for projects and funding commitments to faculty, students, and organizations
- Manages Provost's office on 1st floor of Ballou Hall
- Assists senior staff on special projects, such as cross-school initiatives, student issues, research issues, academic planning, priority setting, and facilities projects
Noah Kirksey
Budget and Administrative Coordinator
- Assists supervisor with completing Provost Area quarterly projection reports and Dept ID close outs for the fiscal year end, by assessing financial reports, preparing reports for supervisor, and completing appropriate paperwork for transfers of funds.
- Prepares bi-monthly reports for Assistant Provost and supervisor and analyzes budget expenditures on Provost's Office Dept IDs.
- Advises Provost Area units and centers on financial policies and procedures and trains staff on internal policies and procedures enacted by Assistant Provost.
- Coordinates the routing and tracking of the affiliation agreement approval process. Reviews affiliation agreements to alert Vice Provost of special circumstances or issues with agreements and resolves issues.
- Plans and coordinates the annual Provost's Retreat with the Provost, by running planning meetings and coordinating all logistics.
Mary Y. Lee
Associate Provost
- Serves as co-chair (with the Vice President for Information Technology) of the Information Technology Council that oversees central IT for the university and its seven schools
- Oversees the University Library Council for Tufts' five libraries
- Oversees Digital Collections and Archives and University Library Technology Services
- Oversees the University Committee on Teaching and Faculty Development and related activities to support faculty in their academic roles
- Works closely with Administrative and Academic Technology to support education and research across the university
- Supports cross-school initiatives such as OpenCourseWare in collaboration with the Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service
Hyosun Lee
Administrative Assistant
- Provides administrative support for Associate Provost Mary Lee, including managing her calendar and travel arrangements
- Assists with the Associate Provost's committee responsibilities, grant preparation and management, and speaking engagements
- Coordinates office communications, including correspondence and website updating
Dawn G. Terkla
Associate Provost for Institutional Research and Evaluation
- Oversees the management of the Office of Institutional Research & Evaluation
- Provides guidance across the university on issues relating to institutional research, outcomes assessment, and evaluation
- Works with schools and departments on various initiatives, e.g., strategic planning, outcomes assessment, fact finding, program reviews
Yvette Dalton-McCoy
Associate Director of Graduate Diversity Programs
- Works with all schools in developing and coordinating university-wide programs to recruit and retain a diverse graduate student population
- Chair of the Graduate and Professional Student Admissions Recruitment Committee (GAPSARC)
- Manages the Multi-Ethnic Graduate Alliance (MEGA) and the Leadership Alliance at Tufts University
- Coordinates Provost Office diversity events such as the Bi-annual Prospective Graduate Student Days and the Diversity Reception
